Theta Staking on a Guardian Node

Theta Un-Delegating

T

Here is a very quick example on how you can un-delegate your Theta Tokens. When you un-delegate your Theta, you must un-delegate all your tokens and re-delegate.

Log into your Theta Wallet via the online wallet . You do not need to log into GPool or any other delegator to un-delegate your tokensAfter you have logged in, click on the Stakes tab.Use the address circled in red from the above image under Holder. This is the address of the Theta Guardian Node you have Delegated against. Do Not use the Guardian Node Summary address to withdraw. The address circled above is from GPool, yours may be different. Highlight your address and use the copy feature of your browser. Click the Withdraw Stake button.Copy the address from the previous page into the field above. Continue the remainder of the process. (I’ll add more when I un-delegate mine)The withdrawal takes about 48 hours to finalize and the coins become available.

Theta Staking – How To Video

T

Below is a video on how you can Stake/Delegate your Theta on the Mainnet 2.0. If you want to see how I’m going to stake my Theta, please watch this video.

If you want to see the Theta Network in action, you can view the Guardian Monitor page.

You keep your Theta in your own wallet. You hold your own private keys. You will never send your Theta to another wallet to be staked. You will stake from within your own wallet. If someone tells you that you need to send Theta to their wallet, leave the conversation. If someone tells you that they need your private keys or 24 word phrase, run from the conversation. It takes 48 hours to “unstake” the coins you have staked. The time might be different since it is based on blocks and clock time. Visit and scroll down to “Stats” for the current Stake Withdraw time. You will have to un-stake tokens prior to sending them to another wallet. If you stake multiple times and want to un-stake your tokens, you need to un-stake all tokens and re-stake the remaining. While using any Guardian Node to Delegate, the TFuel you earn should arrive back into the wallet you are staking from.Binance and other exchanges offer Theta staking. I’m not sure what their staking process is. But remember, if you don’t hold your coins, you don’t own your coins.

Looking for an ROI on staking?This excerpt is from an admin running . See the image below. You can find this updated at every checkpoint on the theta blockchain. “You can now calculate your Tfuel earnings by using the coefficients above. I could not find them anywhere, so I added them to the site. They very from checkpoint to checkpoint and the 1000K should be accurate to the eighteenth decimal place (why not?) for calculating rewards, the same as the theta blockchain.  Also on the right side, you can estimate your ROI per day, month, and year. Keep in mind these values will fluctuate greatly on block speed and Tfuel price. (assumes 100% uptime) ;

Theta Staking – Staking Process

T

Below is a step-by-step process to Delegate your Theta. If you’d like to watch the process done via a How to video, check it out here.

Staking through Web Wallet

Access the Theta Web Wallet from your desktop/laptop. Unlock your Theta wallet using your typical access method (keystore, seed phrase, hardware wallet, etc.).

Once your wallet is unlocked, click the “Stakes” tab of the menu and click “Deposit Stake”.

In the Guardian Node Holder (Summary) field, enter the text string from your Guardian Node app. Enter the Amount of THETA you want to stake to this node and click “Deposit Stake“. Note that you need to stake at least 10,000 THETA.

After reviewing your stake deposit info on the next screen, enter your wallet password, then click “Confirm & Deposit Stake“. After the stake deposit transaction is confirmed, you can switch back to the Guardian node to verify that it is working as expected. If you are not in control of your own Guardian, you can verify your staked about on the Theta Blockchain (URL to be added when released)

Important: If you stake from a Nano Ledger wallet, you’d need to navigate to the Ethereum app, and make sure that in the settings, “Contract data Allowed” and “Debug data NOT Displayed” are selected.

If you are not running your own Guardian Node, I’d recommend following What I’m Doing.

Staking through Mobile Wallet

Download the Theta Wallet app in the App Store / Play Store, or if already installed make sure you have upgraded to version 2.0.0 (iOS) / 2.0.0 (Android). Please make sure you have not stored your 12 word phrase on your phone.

Once your wallet is unlocked, click the “Stakes” tab at the bottom of the screen, then click “Deposit”.

In the Guardian Node Holder (Summary) field of the Theta Wallet app, click the QR code icon and use your device to scan the QR code from your Guardian Node app. If you are running the Theta node through the command line, you can also copy/paste the summary directly into this field.

Then in the Wallet app enter the amount of THETA you want to stake to your Guardian Node and click “Next“. Note that you need to stake at least 10,000 THETA. After the stake deposit transaction is confirmed, you can switch back to the Guardian node to verify that it is working as expected. If you are not in control of your own Guardian, you can verify your staked about on the Theta Blockchain.

If you are not running your own Guardian Node, I’d recommend following What I’m Doing.

GPool Updates

Below is a list of updates posted on the GPool Patreon page. If you are using the GPool Guardian Node to stake your Theta, please support them by joining their Patreon Group

Huge Thank You!! – June 28, 2020

Just wanted to send a big thank you out to all of you that support GPooL and the community projects we support (i.e. ).I would also like to address the recent Theta blockchain reward that was missed (30DMB of “1”). This was the result of 3 of the 12 VNs going offline, from what I have been told by from Jieyi (Theta lead Dev) this was an edge case issue (rare) that has been dealt with. Even though every single GN on the network missed this block reward, GPooL does not plan on missing any of them outside of things like this, that are outside our control. Do to that we feel it was appropriate to address this one, as well as any if ever it happens again. Yes, you can see some GNs have 1000’s missed in the 30DMB (Number of missed checkpoint reward blocks in the last 30 days) column at TFUEL.io (GM), but this is why you support GPooL to make sure you do not miss even a single one.

Theta Staking on GPool Guardian Node

T

Learn how to Delegate your Theta Tokens on GPool’s Guardian Node with the video above.

There has been quite a bit of confusion as to the difference between Delegating and Staking. Let’s see if the information below helps.

Delegating Theta

Requires 10,000 Theta Tokens or more. You can delegate your Theta Token against a Guardian Node like GPool or run your own Guardian Node.Any earned Tfuel is deposited directly into the Theta Wallet that you are delegating to every 100 blocks or about 12 mins. When you delegate and want to un-delegate, the process would take 28,800 blocks or about 48 hours.

Staking Theta

If you had under 10,000 Theta TokensStaking your Theta can be done on an exchange or a place like GPool. You must send your Theta Tokens to GPool and lose control of your tokens. You will not hold the private keys.Any earned Tfuel will be deposited into your Theta Wallet (the wallet address on file) but I’m unclear of the timing on the deposits. It is a manual process within GPool or an exchange. The un-staking process takes up to 9 days.

The staking process explained above is not a part of the Theta Guardian delegation program. Sites like GPool take the tokens you’d like to Delegate and pool them with other members who also have under 10,000 tokens. The Theta Guardian program does not have a way to delegate under 10,000 Theta, so pooling of Theta must occur.

Theta Staking – What I’m Doing

T

I have spoken in the past about how I’ve been staking/delegating my Theta tokens on Theta’s Beta Sapphire network. I also mentioned how you might be able to participate in staking using my Guardian Node. Just as many things in life change, so has my staking strategy. Take a listen to my video below to see how I’ve decided to stake my Theta tokens.

After watching the video, you might still want to stake your Theta on your own hardware. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me and ask for help.

GPool is run by a bunch of great guys and I highly recommends staking there. One thing to be aware of is that if you don’t meet the minimum requirements to Delegate, you can Stake your Theta on GPool. The minimum number of Theta to Delegate on a Guardian Node is 10,000 Theta. If you have under that amount you can Stake it on GPool or Binance.

Delegation of Theta does not require you to send your Theta tokens out of your wallet. You hold your private keys and your tokens when delegating. To un-delegate your Theta, it takes about 28,800 blocks or about 48 hours.

Staking of Theta requires you to send your Theta tokens to a 3rd party holder. Un-staking on GPool takes around 9 days. If you stake at Binance I believe your un-staking time is much shorter. If you plan to stake your Theta and not delegate, Binance might be a better choice.

GPool does Delegation and Staking of Theta. I believe Binance will do staking of your Theta, but you will not get the same return as someone like GPool. Binance needs to make a profit off of everything they do. So why would GPool delegate your Theta for free? GPool is doing this to support the Theta community. Their intensions are to get as many Theta off the Exchanges and locked into Delegating. This is good for everyone and for the price of Theta.

Info on GPool:Website – gpool.ioTelegram – –

Below is a screen shot from my Theta wallet showing the TFuel that flows right into my wallet steadily every 100 blocks (11-15 mins). This is a result of delegating on a Theta Guardian Node. I am staking my Theta on GPool’s Guardians.

Theta Mainnet 2.0 Staking Options

T

There are a few ways you can stake your Theta on their new Mainnet 2.0.

First Option – set up your own server. The requirements for a Guardian node are the following:1. A minimum of 10,000 Theta tokens AND2. Minimum 5Mbps+ up and downAND3. CPU: 4 cores or more; Memory: 8 GBytes or more

Second Option – Sign up for a new Theta-guardian-node through Google Cloud Platform and spend about $200/month. You would need to stake at least 100k Theta and have the Tfuel price be over $0.04 to break even. Remember when Google’s unofficial motto was “don’t be evil”? Well they removed that back in 2015. Enough said?

Third Option – Stake your Theta at GPool. This option is probably the easiest and best choice. There is no overhead to you and nothing to buy. You would need to stake things on your end, but that’s a fairly simple process.

If you want to have all the fun of running your own Guardian, go for option #1 above. Don’t waste your time and money (at these prices) on option #2. Shelling out a min of $200/month to Google just doesn’t have the ROI that you’d need to make it profitable.
