Here are a few simple step to remove meta data from the photos you take. It’s important to remove this data before posting to social media sites, if they don’t already strip this information. Signal automatically strips this data before being sent.

Remove Metadata From Photos in MacOS

  1. Select the photo you wish to modify
  2. Open the photo in Preview app
  3. From the Tools pulldown menu select Show Inspector
  4. Once the More Info box is open click on the GPS tab
  5. Click on the Remove Location Info button
  6. Your Photo will have it’s meta GPS data removed.
  7. The other meta data will remain unless you use a 3rd party software to remove it. You can see the only thing that might identify you is the type of iPhone that was used to take the picture.

  1. Open the Photos app
  2. Select the intended photo
  3. Click Share button
  4. Click Options
  5. Under Include deselect (no green) Location and All Photos Data
  6. Click Done

Remove Metadata From Photos in Windows

  1. Locate the photo you wish to modify
  2. Right-click it
  3. From the popup window, select Properties
  4. A window will open. Click the Details tab at the top of the window
  5. Click on the link at the bottom of window Remove Properties and Personal Information.
  6. Select the editing choice you’d like to use.
  7. The information you selected to have deleted is now removed.

  1. Open the Gallery app
  2. Select the intended image and click ‘More’
  3. Click ‘Details’
  4. Select ‘Edit’
  5. Click the ‘-’ symbol next to details you wish to delete
